It takes some stamina, but just one day in Paris is enough to take in many of the major sights and sample some delicious French food.
I prefer exploring any city on foot and Paris is a great place to do just that. I’d recommend starting at the Île de la Cité for the magnificent Notre Dame cathedral, and walking to the Eiffel Tower along the quays of the Left bank of the River Seine, browsing the old prints and secondhand book stalls on the way.
I love the view of the Eiffel Tower from Jardins du Trocadéro…
A river cruise on the Seine is a fabulous way to take in the iconic monuments, so hop onboard a bateaux-mouche. Cruises last around an hour, starting and ending near Pont de l’Alma (for further details see here). After your cruise, wander along the Right bank of the Seine (or hop on the Metro) to the Place de la Concorde…
The Arc de Triomphe du Carousel leads you on to the Musée du Louvre.
There’s just time to hop on the Metro for some quick shopping at Galeries Lafayette…
- A Carte Mobilis (one-day pass) gives you the freedom to hop on and off the Metro all day.
- To skip the queues, buy your tickets for the Louvre online in advance. It’s worth noting that the Louvre is closed on Tuesdays.
- Check opening hours for Galeries Lafayette over here.
